Microsoft introduced the first GUI based set of software which is popularly known as

windows. A window is a box or frame on the screen. In a window. Each application or 

documents run in its own through separate window. We can have many windows on the 

screen at a time containing its own program on document. We can easily shift out window 

frame one place to another. We can also increase or decrease the size of window. We can 

drag it one side shrunk it from another side, stretch it and so on.

Windows 95/98 of Microsoft corporation are the greatest versions to its previously 

successful windows 3.1 . Windows 95 is an operating system and computer boots on it 

whereas a window 3.1 was only an operating environment. It comes of with a handful of 

its own little programs such as notepad, word pad, paint etc. Some popular windows are 

windows 95, windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, 

Windows 8 etc. 

Features of using Windows

 It is easier to learn and use.

 It allows the user to work on a number of applications

simultaneously.

 Failures to any application don’t harm the computer system. 

 It has features of communicating with other computers.

 It has many built in programs.

 It has fast processing capability.

 It helps to run the multiple applications at a time.

It is GUI based software. So every item is in graphics form
