What do you mean by Application software? Explain the types of application software .
Application software: Application software are the sets of one or more programs
designed to carry out operation for a specified application directly to the users. It helps
the users to work faster more efficiently and more productively. Application software may
be written by a large house which distributes this product widely to address general class
problem or may be written by an individual to address any particular problem. There are
two types of applications software’s.
Tailored software
Package software

Tailored software is the software specially designed to meet the specific requirement
an organization or individual. As a tailor measures the dimension of a person for sewing
his cloths, a tailored software is written on the demand of individual need and serve only
one user or organization. For example: Result processing of SLC, Printing of certificates,
payroll software sales ledge, etc. It is such kind of software designed to meet the specific
requirement of an organization or individual. School management software, billing
software, ticket reservation software etc. The data and nature of processing of data are
similar but actually they are different in many ways. For different purposes, different
tailored programs are written. Tailor software are written in high level language like c, c++
, Fortran, Pascal etc.
Package software: it is a general set of program that allows the computer to perform
the specific data processing job for users. These programs are user friendly, word
processing software, excel sheets software and database software are the example of

The package software would have the following features.
a It should be user friendly and the user of the packaged software must be able to use it
with minimum study about the packaged.
b The packaged software should have menu driven facilities.
c It should be well tested program provided by reputed software vendors.
d It should be fast to work and easy to access.
